Medicines that affect the degree of hearing lead to weakness in it.

Are you one of those people who are committed to a certain type of medication? Or a person suffering from cancer and undergoing chemotherapy? Have you ever thought about the effect of these drugs on your hearing and their relationship to hearing impairment?  In this article, you will learn about the effects of some medicines on hearing.

Hearing impairment

Hearing impairment can occur due to a variety of factors, including genetics , advanced age, dysfunction, constant exposure to loud sounds, or drug toxicity. The hearing impairment may be congenital, genetic, or due to a tumor on the auditory nerve, among other causes that lead to hearing impairment. The hearing loss may be conductive, sensorineural, or a mixture of both. Hearing loss caused by drugs or toxicities is sensorineural, occurs at high frequencies, and worsens with increasing exposure to drugs and their continuous consumption.

The relationship of hearing loss to medication

Inside the inner ear is the cochlea, which contains both outer and inner capillaries. These capillaries feed on and receive blood from surrounding arterioles, venules, and capillaries. When taking certain types of medication continuously, these medications include aspirin, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. some antibiotics, such as gentamicin, streptomycin, neomycin, kanamycin, and streptomycin; and medicines from the mycin family. And the drug quinine receives its toxicity in the blood, which contributes to the transmission of this toxicity to the auditory capillaries and their failure to obtain correct pure nutrition, which leads to their death, which causes hearing impairment, as these capillaries are responsible for receiving sound, increasing its loudness, and delivering it to the brain, which may be the cause of hearing impairment. Also, the presence of a disease or disorder in the functioning of the kidneys responsible for regulating ions in the body, which constitutes a defect in the ions of the auditory hairs and thus a defect in their function.

Treatment of hearing loss due to toxicity

If you have hearing impairment due to drug toxicity, its treatment lies in continuous follow-up of your hearing and periodic examinations if you are a person who constantly uses the above-mentioned medications. Hearing aids can be used according to the degree of hearing loss. If the cause of the hearing impairment is a defect in the kidneys, the defect in the kidneys can be treated, and the ions in the body can be regulated so that the ions are in order in the auditory hairs. If we prevent the cause first, we will reduce the chance of hearing impairment.

A person taking certain medications may become preoccupied with them and his illness, but regular follow-up is required. Because hearing loss causes a variety of problems and disorders such as depression and isolation, increasing the risk of dementia early on, you can expect excellent results even if you underestimate them. If you can use these medications, please check your hearing.
